from the president |
Dear Customers,
Unitex Direct has successfully moved into our new facility! Thanks to all of our customers for your patience while we made the move in early March. Our operations were virtually uninterrupted, and we’re settling nicely into our much larger space. Just look at this PDF of the floor plan for our new sewing and shipping departments, put together by America’s 21st. They did an excellent job helping us create an efficient layout that is helping us get your orders out even faster! If you are ever in Michigan, stop by for a tour of our new digs!

President, Unitex Direct

UK Troops in Uniform Verbally Abused
British troops stationed at Wittering Air Base about 90 miles north of London have been told to wear civilian clothing when going into the nearby city because those in uniform have been verbally abused by anti-war residents. The troops have faced the verbal attacks for months. The harassment has been condemned by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. He and the British military as a whole encourage the wearing of uniforms in public.

Keeping Good Employees...
• Offer ongoing training or trade show attendance
• Increase benefits or salary – include merit-based benefits to encourage higher performance
• Use little bonuses – providing breakfast once a month, public transportation cards, even $5 Starbuck’s cards can show employees that they are valued
• Match their preferences to their duties – if a person likes working alone, don’t place them on your largest shift
• Offer rotating assignments – this keeps officers fresh and keeps it feeling new
• Offer advancement opportunities - provide information for promotions and what is required to advance
• Ask current employees to recommend others they know for open job positions – they will enjoy being included in the process and know you are satisfied with their performance

Customer Profile |
Regent Security Services
Ernie Sizemore, President
Regent Security Services employs more than 1,000 officers across the Southeast. Headquartered in Augusta, GA, it serves mainly industrial clients, providing 24-hour security patrols, camera monitoring, and access checkpoints. Regent’s structure includes local area managers who oversee clients within a 90-mile radius. This keeps the managers close to their families and allows clients to have a single go-to person that they know personally. Many of its officers have been with the company for a decade or more, and Regent celebrates its best employees with Security Officer of the Year recognitions.
What is the standard uniform for your officers?
“Most of our customers prefer a military-style uniform but we also offer a dress uniform and a business casual uniform. Our military uniform is designed to offer layers and alternate items based on climate and comfort of the individual. Our officers really like the flexibility of the new program. We redesigned our whole uniform packages a few years ago to be distinctive for our region, and Unitex Direct was truly a partner in that process, working with us on patch design, color combinations, equipment/uniform combinations, availability/inventory, price and even timing for the transition itself. By working with Unitex Direct, we were able to provide a full uniform including the belt and a better jacket for the same price we paid before the redesign. We met our goals on time and on budget!”
Why did you choose Unitex Direct as your uniform supplier?
“When we chose Unitex Direct, we were having difficulty with another vendor in both quality of uniform pieces and availability of standard uniform items. We were happy and continued working with them on all uniform items. I have chosen to stay with Unitex Direct based on the personal service, the helpful staff, the quality of uniforms, and the way they work with us to make our uniform program successful. We’ve even expanded our orders to include logo promotional items. The value of doing business with Unitex Direct is why I continue to use them over other vendors.”
Employee appreciation is obvious at Regent Security Services. You keep manager service areas small, encourage community involvement, etc. How does this benefit Regent?
“Our business model allows us to be there for our customers and our community. This model also allows us to work closely with our security officers on staffing and training needs. We support our officers, our clients and our communities because they are all key factors in our success.
Employee retention is crucial because the foundation of our business is the security officer on the front line. Without their dedication, meeting our business goals is impossible and service to the customer suffers. Focusing on retention makes our training more effective because it becomes cumulative rather than remedial. This effort in turn provides a better security officer and better service for our clients.”
What aspect do you most appreciate about working with Unitex Direct?
“They really care about helping us succeed from working with us on our inventory to optimizing uniform options for different climates. I know we are one of many clients but they treat us like we’re the only one.”
What piece of advice have you found essential when making important decisions regarding Regent Security Services as a whole?
“Do what is right. Conduct your business dealings with integrity, honor and respect. Make business dealings fair and beneficial to all concerned – the customer, our company, our vendors, and our employees. Usually others will respond in kind.”

Dale Champine
“Lord and Master of Shipping/Receiving”
Job Duties: “Daily shipping and receiving, and processing customer orders.” Dale makes sure the right items come into the warehouse and production facility, and also heads up keeping customer orders moving along so they ship on-time and correctly.
At Unitex Direct: More than 10 years. One of Dale’s more memorable days on the job was Sept. 11, 2001. He remembers the feeling of total disbelief at the events as they were happening, and he still thinks about how the day unfolded and the roller coaster of emotions that came with it.

Family Life: “I’ve been married for 30 years to Donna. I asked her out to dinner at a funeral, and proposed three months later at a golf course.”
Hobbies: “4,000 softball games, 1,000 rounds of golf. No wonder my back hurts!”
